On my one year launch-iversary

One week shy of the first anniversary of my official shop launch (August 23, 2008), I made my 400th sale today! Wow.

I was featured on the Etsy Storque blog and weekend deals mail this weekend, for the second time in the past few months, and have been swamped in orders today, which is a nice feeling. My Google Analytics says I got 4500 page views in a nine hour period today and over 1000 unique visitors! And now I'm up to my elbows in custom or made-to-order items and of course, happy as a clam to be so busy.

All things considered, it's been an incredibly good first year. I can look back now and see how little I knew when I started, and how bad some of my early pictures were, and even how much better my craftsmanship has gotten in a year of sewing so intensely and constantly. It's amazing how much better you get when you make a few hundred crayon/pencil rolls/coffee sleeves instead of just a few. And it's a wonderful feeling to stretch and grow in so many ways - photography, sewing skills, design, color sense, marketing, day-to-day efficiency of running a business...

Many thanks not only to my many and much-valued customers but to Brett, who says he's never seen me work so hard or so happily at anything, and to the many friends who have encouraged me, cheered for me from the sidelines, offered me advice on various issues, and just listened to way too much shop talk over the last twelve months. I don't know how you've put up with my complete Etsy obsession, but I truly couldn't have done it without your help.

Megan, that is fantastic! Congrats so much on your success and all your improvement. I cannot even IMAGINE getting the amount of traffic you described - that is so cool. Happy 1-year anniversary!
